A surf lesson is helpful when learning how to surf. Surf lessons can speed up the time it takes to successfully catch and ride waves.

However, surf lessons are expensive. Do you really need to take a lesson to learn how to surf? Can you just learn to surf on your own? I answer these questions in this article.

How important is a surf lesson?

A surf lesson is quite helpful if you are wanting to learn how to surf. Surf lessons can considerably speed up the time it takes to understand the basics of surfing. There are many nuances to surfing that are best learned by doing and hard to explain in writing or even on video.

However, a surf lesson can shed light on these difficulties when navigating the waves for the first time. Guidance from an experienced instructor goes a long way when it comes to acquainting yourself with the fundamentals of surfing.

Is a surf lesson necessary?
